When you have had your seventeenth birthday you can ride a more powerful motorbike when you have completed a few steps. The bike you can ride at seventeen can be up to 125 cc (11 kW) - category A1 - and if you have a provisional licence and a current CBT certificate, you can ride one on the road with L plates clearly displayed but you can't carry a passenger. You will need to pass a theory test if you have not already done so and then you will need to pass your two part practical test. This will need to be on a bike of between 120 and 125 cc. On passing, you will be allowed to ride without learner plates and carrying a pillion passenger.
