In principle you can ride any size motorbike when you are over 24, provided you can pass the two part practical test on a large motorcycle. Your path to the test will vary depending on your riding history. If you have held a valid A2 licence for more than two years or less than 2 years but have passed the theory test, you can progress straight to your test. If you have an A2 or A1 licence but still need to complete your theory, this will need to be done before you can take your practical, which will have to be on a motorcycle of at least 595cc (a minimum of 40 kW). If you don’t have an A1 or A2 licence you will need to complete all stages of the process, in other words, the CBT certification and the theory test before you can take the practical. Once you have completed all stages and have passed the practical two-part test, you can drive absolutely any size motorcycle on the public road with a passenger if appropriate.
